[DML] Fuel Accumulator

I am curious about the Bosch K Jetonic fuel injection used on our cars.  Why do we have a fuel accumulator when my friends with the same fuel injection designation on their Porsche or BMW do not seem to?  If they have the fuel accumulator, it must be different, since, they do not seem to have the hot start problem.

Is it possible or practical to convert to their cofiguration?
