I've been watching the banter on this thread for some time, and could
no longer sit by and let Claude spew his uninformed misinformation. I
feel my two cents are worthwhile to this discussion since I'm one of
the very few in the online DeLorean community to total his DeLorean. I
was t-boned by a 5,000 pound all-steel Cadillac Fleetwood with full
chrome bumpers travelling at roughly 50 mph, and look what happened to
my car:

My DeLorean was hit so hard that it spun a 180. The passenger
compartment of my DeLorean was NOT affected by the collision. The car
absorbed the entire impact, and I was ~NOT~ hurt. I walked away, the
only injury I sustained was a cut on my neck, either from glass or my
seatbelt. The biggest gripe I had about the DeLorean's crash
performance was the underbody was so deflected by the impact that even
the passenger door was jambed shut; I had to crawl out the drivers
window of my car after the wreck. That simply meant that the car was
again absorbing the impact INSTEAD OF MY BODY! Everyone expected me to
never want to get in a DeLorean again after my wreck, but the opposite
was true. I was so impressed with the car's impact performance that I
wouldn't have ANY other car after my wreck. I was in a new DeLorean a
month after my wreck. I hate to fuel Claude, but I just can't let him
assault the DeLorean on something that hits a little to close to home
for me. We can all insult the car for various things, but safety I
feel, is not one of them.
