Not everyone remembers this from high school physics - what matters is not the velocity, but the square of the velocity. What matters is how much energy the car had when it hit the barrier, and kinetic energy is mass times the square of the velocity. So if the Brickin was going 30mph, the square of 30 is 900. If the Delorean was going 40mph, the square of 40 is 1600. The 10mph velocity difference in this case translates into the Delorean having almost TWICE AS MUCH kinetic energy to be dissipated in deformation of the structure. And the structure of the Delorean was designed to deform to protect the occupants. Claude, IMHO you really could do with chilling a bit, with becoming a bit better informed and a bit less opinionated. Even the smartest of us are pretty ignorant, don't really know all that much on the scale of what can be known in this world, and make a lot of mistakes. Appears to me your ongoing arrogant and self-important tone is becoming pretty offensive to a lot of people on this list. ________________________________ From: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of cbl1739 Sent: Fri 12/21/2007 11:39 PM To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [DML] Re: Gullwing Doors on Any Car Your right I had it ass backwards,my error, since I was posting it right after I typed the links..even so the 5 or 10 MPH DIFFERENCE,should NOT make that much difference as it is very divasting in the Delorean vs the Bricklin which DID not even CRACK the windshield or damage the hood and very minor damage(repairable) to the frame This car (the Bricklin) was repaired and reused. PS Had they used the ERM process it would have been EVEN way worse (about the same as that Monster Garage Delorean that was run over by that American tank) Claude [moderator snip] To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnews Yahoo!
