[DML] Rebuilt my steering rack...early car question

Our new D owner Chuck H. (from WI) helped me to rebuild my steering
rack recently.  Chuck had done all of the major disassembly of the
unit, and said that my rack was filled with grease, and not gear oil.
 He said my rack was one of the best that he's seen with no rust on
the bearings, and that when he rebuilds his "new" car's rack, he would
be using grease in his too (instead of the gear oil).  

The question came up as to whether or not my rack, being from an
earlier car (#1604) was loaded with grease, but the later cars have
gear oil in their racks?  John Hervey had mentioned before that
something is different about the steering racks in the earlier cars. 
I forget what it was, though.  

In any case, my rack has a 1/8" hole in the middle of the tube on the
bottom to allow water (or oil) to drain out, and so without plugging
that, I couldn't put gear oil in there even if I wanted to.  I am
considering the idea of putting a grease zerk in there, though I'm not
certain I'd be able to access it once the rack is back in the frame.
