I do know why the seats are only half-leather. It is to do with the 
suppleness of leather sides when fitting them, and full leather seats 
have to be either slightly baggy and end up with unwanted ripples, OR 
made-to-measure. As they were mass produced, Trimtech went with half 
leather to ensure a consistent product

This came from the horse's mouth, Simon Bellamy at (what was) trimtech 
when I had my seats re-trimmed by them in '02
