the timing-chip was only once the problem of the five
rpm-relays I fixed so far.
on two or three the relay itself got unsoldered due
to the permamnent force on it - just resoldered it - done.
one or twice als the relay driving transistor failed.
normaly it is very easy to fix, so never throw away
a broken unit...

main problem was that one morning it would not start. When turning the
key to the second position you would normally hear the fuel pump but
silence was in its place. I disconnected the plug from the relay and
connected the white/purple part of the socket to a spare pin near the
locking module that would run the furel pump contiunously. I have since
replaced the timing microchip within the RPM relay which has cured the
problem. The chip can be found here http://tinyurl.com/24oftv and
probably available at your local radio shack.
