General Motors (didn't John DeLorean darken their hallways from time
to time?) pioneered HEI in the 1970's. Became their default ignition.
Every vehicle that rolled out of Flint MI burned high voltage
inductive ignition until capacitive ignition took over in the mid
1980's. Surely General Motors generated some sort of data to make that
decision.
