That's me. I didn't want to be the first to broach the subject, but
there are actually two flaws in John's baffle. Not only is the bottom
open, but the aluminum fatigues where he bends it to make the hold
down straps. One of mine eventually broke, which allowed the baffle to
flop around.
I actually used a chunk chicken can, which led to the "Chicken Of The
D" comments you remember (a Farrar'ism -- remember him?). A large one
is exactly the right size to fit through the tank opening. It's also
almost identical in size to John's.
Pics have been uploaded to #5939's photo album.
The last thing I want to do is cut into John's business (he's my
vendor of choice). But his baffle *IS* flawed. The concept is pure
genius, for which I give him full credit. But Version 1 does need
improvement. Before everyone runs out and starts buying chunk tuna or
chicken, perhaps John can source similar aluminum containers and
substitute them for the baffles he's currently manufacturing from
scratch. Would be faster for him as well as a design improvement.
