  After cleaning well, I have used Lubriplate succesfully.  I understand a 
Lithium grease may also be used.         Drive Stainless           Robert

What is the current recommendation for speedometer cable lube?  Last I
recall I think it was white grease after cleaning out the old stuff.  Is
there anything better?
