I'm going to jump in on this even though my MegaSquirtnSpark is on an Eagle engine. The first thing is "who can service it" Well, anyone with a laptop can plug in and run diagnostics on the system and find out exactly where the problem is. As it stands with the original setup, there always seems to be alot of guessing, parts swapping and random searching to find problems. Driveability in cold weather is amazing. Remember, this is current technology that controls "every" aspect of what the fuel and ignition systems are doing. We even program for de-acceleration parameters. And now you can program for gas milage or performance... your choice. You can even set it up for self-programming while you drive!! And you get to remove all sorts of problem areas from the existing setup.... ie cold start valve, fuel distributor, all three old school DeLorean ECUs, idle speed motor, fuel pressure reg, etc. The mechanical setup of the MegaSquirt is easy... understanding the software to program it is what brings you into the age of Fast and Furious style engine management. The forums and help for MegaSquirt are amazing... they are very helpful and this MegaSquirt system is so widespread there are definately more people out there to help you than you can imagine. Did I have some problems setting mine up... yep, a couple. But what I got in return is a very reliable system that has a ton of support, is always being improved, and allows you the flexability to do anything you want (turbo, supercharger, flex fuel) you name it. Yes, this new style stuff can be intimidating, but I gotta believe this is what we would see if the D was being built today.
