[DML] Re: Suggested cooling system modification

That little hose coming off the radiator on the right side, top, is an
auto bleeder. The way it enters the pipe gives a venturi effect,
sucking out any air that gets trapped in the top of the radiator. You
bleed it only when you replace the anti-freeze for it's initial fill.
After that it should be fine. If it bothers you enough you can always
cut a small valve into the hose to bleed it but it isn't necessary. As
for breaking the radiator barb, by now you should be removing that
plastic radiator and going with the brass 3 row metal one. The
original radiator is WAY past it's useful life. Now that you bring up
other suggested mods here is my list to "bulletproof" one of the
weaker systems on the Delorean:
Replace ALL seals, gaskets, hoses, and belts
Replace the idler pulley bearings, "O" ring, water pump, thermostat,
and seal
Replace otterstadt switch and seal
Replace the plastic header bottle with a metal one
Replace the plastic tank radiator with the brass one
Replace the fan fail relay or the bypass with a Fanzilla or equivilent
Upgrade the circuit breakers (cooling fans and heater motor)
Pressure test to 15 psi for 15 minutes NO LEAKS ALLOWED!
Use 50/50 soft water and premium ethylene-glycol anti-freeze
Add an overflow/recovery bottle and top off the header tank.
The BIG thing here is you CANNOT have ANY leaks and you can't trust
the origional stuff, it's 25 years old!
