Sometime ago I had similar problems with the speedometer.
Turned out that a piece of plastic cover at the back of the odometer
(between odometer and speedometer spring) had at times contact with
the spring thus causing a delay in the needles' advancing.
Could be your problem too (old plastic changing due to age and
temperatures)?
