[DML] Stanchions

'Movie ropes', or stanchion posts look neat around the car, (real rich)
but there can be issues too.
If you've ever stood in line with chains, you know what kids like to do.
Swing or sit on them.
I've even seen adults lean on velvet ropes to reach the car, causing
posts to teeter and fall. (Think dominoes.)
Most chrome posts (and weighted bases) are very heavy and would leave
a good dent or at least a nasty scratch in the stainless if it toppled
in the wrong direction.
In addition to movie ropes (which obviously make me paranoid), we've
tried lots of other things.
Tall or stacked rubber traffic cones with brightly colored flagging
tape worked well for us. Kids don't try to swing on the tape, because
it just breaks.
The rubber cones won't hurt anything either, even if someone (drunk,
jealous, or crazy) decides they'd like to pick one up and ram it into
the windshield.
I'm usually happy without any kind of corral.
After all, it's a stainless steel car, not a brittle, dried flower
arrangement.
We do almost always use a yellow rope across the door opening in lieu
of chains or bars.
(Helpful hint: If you tie one end onto the seat belt strap, it will
flex if strained, then automatically go taut again when the belt
auto-retracts.)
And if the seat is occupied with something (car info, mini movie
poster, sunshade, -anything), people just can't sit!
I've never much cared for 'DO NOT' signs for stupid people.
Considering the power of suggestion, why even mention 'touching',
'sitting' or other.
Aside from also looking somewhat unfriendly, I presume stupid people
don't read signs.
Just my crowd control 2 cents. . . :)
