I've asked this same question recently, and found I could've saved
myself the trouble by scanning the archives. I think the movie ropes
are the best solution, then a decorative chain in the door to prevent
sitters. Ultimately a poorly behaving spectator needs the owner
watching him to prevent them bypassing all the barriers.
