To clean the copper 'male' blades sticking out from the bottom of the relays and the inside
of the light bulb sockets I usually use something mechanical like my battery operated
Dremal tool. You can buy a bazillion different little attachments to work on various
projects. I use the stainless steel small brush attachments. I have also used fine (600
grit) sand paper and sanded lightly. Or you can just buy the small brush attachments and
use them in your variable speed electric drill.
On the back of the insrument cluster (aka Binnacle) where the speedometer and
tachometer are I used Tarn-X tarnish remover on the copper delicate connections then
lightly rinsed with water then dried with a towel. If there is toooo much corrosion for the
tarnish remover then again use a small tool to brush the corrosion away.
On the 'female' electrical connections I use the fine grit sand paper wrapped over the end
of a very small flat blade screw driver and delicately insert to remove any corrosion. Then
I follow up with the spray can of Electro Contact Cleaner.
After removing any corrosion on any electrical connections follow up with a light coating
of Dielectric Tune-Up Grease. This will prevent the corrosion from coming back.
Mark R. Vanyo.
VIN 02261.
P.S. My hardware store had all of the above. It's so nice to not have to run all over the
county to find everything.
