Paul, The exit port for below the windshield is above the pump area. The
water / condensation may have got in that way. Leave the cap off or loose on
a good day for it to dry out. Once you get it cleaned up you can spray it
with the poly 250 I have on the web site and it will protect it from rusting
for months.

This is something that has puzzled me for a while and I though I had it
sorted until I lifted the fuel pump cover recently.
I am finding I get a build up of water over the top of the fuel pump
