The Ducey alternators seemed to be a lot more sensitive to high temps than the others. I can't offer a better place to put the alternator but if high temps are that big a deal someone could put an air duct in to direct more, cooler air over the alternator. The whole engine area is a "dead air" zone. To properly rate an alternator at max output you have to figure the temperature it will operate at. It is not playing fair to bench an alternator at 70 degrees to it's full output for 5 minutes. The way I would expect it to be done is to rate it at the ambient temperature it is expected to operate at for at least 1 hour. You can't use the manufacturer's rating because in the Delorean the alternator will run hotter so it's output MUST be derated. I don't know how you rate your alternators and I don't know your failure rate. Of course your failure rate has to take into account problems in cars that people put your alternators into where the alternator is not the problem anyway! Or where they may install it improperly. Many times the problem is NOT the alterantor but bad connections, bad battery, shorts, etc. David Teitelbaum vin 10757 --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "John Hervey" <john@...> wrote: > > David, > Where would you mount the alternator it wasn't where it is now.
