Ryan,
You may have a couple of things going on. A bad accumulator not holding the
pressure on the system and a fuel mixture adjustment not right. You should
be able to reach in the car and turn the key on and it crank right off.

Subject: [DML] problems starting
it seems i always have to give my 81 delorean some gas to get the
engine to turn over while cranking. tonight i got in and tried to
crank it and on the second attempt it turned over while i added some
gas and kept it at about 18rpms. took it out for a nice cruise and
everything seemed fine. got it back in the garage and turned it off.
i wanted to see if it would crank back up without giving it gas. it
cranked and cranked, but would not turn over. is this a flooding
issue? it does run a little rich at first. however, i thought after
running it awhile it wouldn't have this problem. any thoughts? thanks
everyone -ryan
