My first DeLorean, a 1981, came with a custom made dash mat made by a company called DashMat. The mat was mid-gray and looked OK on the first car, which I traded to DMC Texas. I kept the mat and my refurbished car , a1982, had a lighter color gray interior than the old car. I decided to wash the mat in the machine and used Woolite. I doubted the mat would survive the washing. The wash water was very dark and the mat came out looking brand new and light gray. I have used it ever since to hopefully protect the dash from UV rays. Frankly I don't know whether it does so or not but It seems to me that it could not hurt and it looks fine. At car shows I remove it. I also bought the windshield sun screen for use when the car is parked outside. I have no doubt the sunscreen blocks a lot of damaging rays. I also have a custom made car cover for use on the car on trips. In addition to protecting the car from the weather it saves a lot of cleaning time. It just seems to me that
something is better than nothing to protect the dash. Rod 10921

cracks, but know that vinyl is brittle (I dropped a wrench on the

crack under further sun exposure. Is it wise to cover it with a dash
mat, or is a sunshade for the windshield good enough. If a dash mat
is recommended, what brand do people rely on?
