Uhhhh might be going out on a limb here but the gauge in this and almost every other car manufactured in the last 20-30 years refers to the charge level of the system i.e. The alternator charge If it is reading above 12 then you are charging your battery, if not then you are draining it.
Is this question for real???

Can someone tell me what the Volt gage is on the car for? I think Volt
is the speed at which power is traveling, right? So what is the
specific purpose of this gage? Mine is always just a smidge above the
center mark.
