An undocumented relay. It bypasses 1/2 the ballast resistor during cranking to give a higher voltage to the coil to help start the motor. The logic is that during cranking, which is a very high draw on the battery, the battery voltage goes down so you don't need as much resistance to the ignition coil keeping the spark a little hotter. This relay is an addition, it has it's own separate harness. IMHO it isn't all that necessary but it can't hurt. The relay prevents a problem in the ignition circuit from getting back into the start circuit and making the starter run. Safer than just running a wire to the resistor from the start switch like on most American cars.
