Two years is not all that long. I would drain the tank and wipe it
out. Depending on how bad it is in the tank would dictate how much
farther to go. If it smells really bad and there is a lot of sludge
and gunk then you can figure the rest of the system is probably in the
same shape. If, when you drain the tank, it is pretty clean, then I
would put about 5 gallons of fresh stuff in and jumper the fuel pump
for a while. This would have the effect of flushing the pump and the
lines to and from the engine. Start the motor and see how it runs.
Modern fuel has additives that will clean everything to some extent so
it may improve as you drive it. You may want to change the fuel filter
after a couple of tankfuls because all the crud will get caught in
there, the system recirculates the unused fuel. When you open the tank
replace any deteriorated parts, like the hoses, boots, and baffles.
You can clean things up very nicely with acetone, just use plenty of
ventilation, gloves, and keep a fire extinguhisher handy.
