Hi guys,
The Millennium Concours program is getting a major face-lift this
year starting with the event at the DMC Open House.
For those of you at DCS'06, you probably noticed the exceptional
lineup of Millennium cars that were competing. That last show set
new highs for both the number of cars participating and their
quality. As a result, some runner-up cars at that show could have
been in a position to take top honors had they been at one of the
earier events.
Because of the number and quality of cars participating, the admin
team has decided to substantially revamp the program. In the past
cars competed against each other and to receive top honors you had
to best every other car in the lineup regarless of the number or
quality of those other cars. A lineup of 20 permium cars that all
have the highest scores ever seen on the planet would yield only 1
car recognized as the top-tier. Conversely, a lineup of 3 daily
drivers would also yield 1 car recognized as the top-tier with no
distinction between the winner of the 3-car daily driver lineup and
the winner of the 20-car permium lineup.
In order to best recognize the achievements of the owners and their
cars based only on the condition of their own car, the program has
been revamped to award quality recognition based solely on the
number of points the car scores.
This new arrangement is being combined with a new Certified
Millennium program. Based on the cars' scores they will be
recognized in one of three certification levels:
Certified Stainless: Top-tier (cars scoring 95% or better)
Certified Silver: 2nd-Tier (cars scoring 90% or better)
Certified Bronze: 3rd-Tier (cars scoring 85% or better)
All cars scoring 95% or better will be recognized as Certified
Stainless regardless of how many there may be (similarly for the
other levels).
This is consistent with how other well-respected clubs handle it
(such as the Corvette club) and I feel this is a nice improvement
in recognizing the true quality of every presented car in the event
and helps establish a better environment where top tier is achieved
solely by the quality of the car and not based on other factors
(such as who else happens to be included in the lineup). No longer
will competitors have to let air out of each others' tires to get
ahead ;-)
