Thank you for the explanation.... but that makes me think. Maybe there was 
some kind of a problem with the quality of those plugs? It must have been a 
limited time issue because I have never had that problem. On the contrary, 
the car starts better and runs smoother on those plugs. And it's not just my 
car... but others as well.
It's possible that Bosch released a bunch of faulty plugs some time ago and 
now all that remains is the bad reputation. I, myself, like those plugs a 
lot.

Short answer: the platinum plugs will start to leak between the shell
and the porcelein. Very bad since these plugs are supposed to outlast
the "standard" type. That's the main reason to spend the extra money,
not a "better" plug, just able to last longer.
