A simple question with a not-that-simple answer.
There is a special tool that looks like a rack of test tubes strapped
together, but good luck finding that. One way is to remove them from
the engine and ship them to a DeLorean parts vendor and have them test
them, and perhaps clean them. I've never had much luck with the
cleaning part. I suspect I had too much hard, particulate matter in
them that just couldn't be broken down.
If you want to test them in place on the engine, with your fuel pump
and fuel distributor you can do what I do:
1. Drink up a pack of IBC Orange Cream soda (clear bottles, not brown).
Use a permenant black marker to make a level mark on all 6 bottles and
number them.
2. Place the cleaned out 6-pack on top of your engine.
3. Carefully remove all 6 injectors and place each one in a bottle,
leaving the fuel lines attached to them.
4. Remove the RPM relay and jumper the #87 contact to the #30 contact
on the relay socket as told in the DeLorean Workshop Bible, Chapter D,
Psalm: 02, Verse: 02. (D:02:02) This will cause the fuel pump to run
non-stop.
5. Observe the following behavior:
a)No fuel injector should be spraying or dripping at this point.
b)Depress the air-flow meter flap. The injectors should all open AT
THE SAME TIME.
c)All injectors should spray a fine, conical mist pattern.
d)Depress the meter flap until the fuel in the bottles reaches the
black mark that you made, then release the flap.
e)Observe whether or not all bottle levels are equal. If not, they
are not delivering the same quantity of fuel.
6. Don't forget to remove the jumper on your RPM relay!
A note of caution: Before you do this, buy new injector seals and
spring clips. The seals may be old and dry causing vacuum leaks and you
could break a rusty clip prying the injectors from their housing. Then
you're stuck waiting for the mail man.
The fuel system operates a high pressures (74 psi). Use caution and
don't bend or kink your fuel lines you could be driving a ball of flame
down the highway one day when a line ruptures.
Have fun.
