Rich, You are right that the D as currently configured is not a good candidate for an EV conversion. The main problem is the heavy weight fiberglass sub body. This needs to be replaced with an aluminum structure. Fortunately, the FG design has mostly flat surfaces so that fabricating an aluminum replacement would not be all that difficult. Time consuming, YES. You should incorporate the box tube roll gage design similar to indy/NasCars. As for the frame issue, I would redesign the car so that it is 12 to 15 inches higher to have a slide in and out batter tray under the passenger area. similar to the VW electric buses of the 70s. This height increase would also make it easier for older D owners to get into an out of their cars. It would also give you a front trunk where you can actually put stuff. After removing the engine, trans, radiator, your would have plenty of room in the rear for the electric motor and an adaptor to the trans axle. You could still keep all the original sheet metal and the stock Delorean look can be maintained with some ground effect add ons. (Might have a picture of this soon.) However, It would be cool to replace the loovers with solar cells.
