I understand exactly where he's coming from (I'm 19, and at 16 I was willing to do ANYTHING to get one of these cars). At that age I didn't understand how private car sales usually go down, and how much of a mistake I'd be making to try and get a D super cheap and fix it up. (Some of you may remember my attempts to acquire one of the worst-condition cars anyone had seen up to that point). Even a small misstatement from my dad that led me to believe he'd help me get one was enough to get me way over-the-top angry and basically have a fit. Rather embarrassing really. My advice to him is to wait. I did and ended up with a very nice running vehicle for a great price.. as soon as I finish paying for it (I got super lucky - the owner doesn't mind monthly payments as long as it doesn't take too long). Even if he succeeds and gets a car for that price that runs, he'll probably fall into the car restoration death spiral and end up ruining his dream far more surely than a dose of realism. (Up till now I never thought I would endorse the way people told me to wait back then...) On another note, anyone know how to add a signature to my posts?
