[DML] Where to go for body repairs after accident?

Just out of curiosity, if you get into a minor to semi major accident 
and the body of your car is smashed in (but repairable), where do you 
take the car for major body repairs? It's not like you can just go 
down to the local GM dealer. Are insurance companies ever pricks about 
paying for DMC damage or shipping charges?
