What wires are you running and what coil? If you run a high power coil and
stock wires type wires, then they will break down faster.
Carbon track is what builds up in all caps. If you use a little lighter
fluid on a rag and wipe it out, that will take care of that. You might what
to check the rotor and see if it still reads 5000 ohms from tip to flat
brass spot if you haven't already put it back together.
The spring loaded contact will do that. It's ok, just make sure when you put
the cap back on the little contact is free enough to ride down on the flat
spot of the rotor.

This is all very strange. The plugs, wires, cap/rotor are all less
that a year old. I gapped them to all .025. (The manual says
between .024-.028) I removed the cap and rotor today and noticed
black fouling on all of the contacts. The spring-loaded contact in
the center of the cap was recessed into the cap slightly. When I
pressed on it if fell out! I don't understand because I have done
everything according to the work shop manual. What would cause this?
