[DML] Driver side water pump coolant hose

I'm replacing all the coolant hoses in my DeLorean and
have run into a little "snag." When replacing the
driver side coolant hose running to the water pump, I
noticed it was a much tighter fit than the one the
previous owner had installed. In fact, the fit is so
tight There's the beginning of a kink to it. 

When I compared the hose to the one the previous owner
had installed I noticed that he had cut a small
portion of hose out of the U-shaped section and used a
coupler to make a better fit.

My question is, is this hose supposed to fit tightly?
Am I not positioning it correctly? Is there something
wrong with the hose?
