If you want to retain the original console for resale, then remove the 
entire plate with the radio attached, and then bite the bullet and buy the 
repro from DMCH and put in a decent radio.
That's the only option really.
Most new owners, unless they want to show the car would rather have the upgraded CD/MP3 player installed.
