[DML] Fuel Line Problem

For the second time in less than 5 years, I seem to have split the
high pressure line from the fuel pump to the engine. For those of
you reporting a fuel smell this is another possibility you might wish
to explore.
Anyway, I bought a piece of high-pressure fuel injector hose from the
local auto parts store and, just like the original DMC version, I
having extreme difficulty getting it on all of the way on the barbs.
One the fuel pump side, I was able to do it by using grease on the
barb but on the car side, I cannot seem to get it on all of the way.
It seems to only go on up to the last ridge. Can you remove the barb
fitting? I tried to loosen the 17mm nut, which I did, but the
fitting did not seem to want to come off after the nut was off of the
barb. I figured it might be easier to install it in the hose of the
car.
On another note, what is the plastic like material that is wrapped
around the fuel pump used for? It seems to be two layers thick and I
don't understand what it does. It is difficult to install the fuel
pump with this film loosely wrapped around the pump.
Thanks,
Scot Stern 6452
