It is not as expensive as it sounds. For anyone traveling from the
north it allows them to avoid going through the city, saves several
hours of driving, tolls, and traffic, and is a very scenic trip. For
those coming from the south it is out-of-the-way. From the west (I
know that is how you are coming) it is a toss-up which way is better.
It has been a long time since I was on a ferry so the ride is a
novelty for me. Because the price of gas has come down so much
recently maybe it is a little cheaper to drive. No matter how you get
to Port Jefferson it will be a great time!
