Ed, What you discribed. Tells me that your idle speed switch is not tripping when the throttle is at idle. Take a long screw driver and push in on the switch tab while the engine is at 1500 rpm. I'll bet it drops to normal. Also make sure the idle stop screw is NOT touching the stop tab when the throttle is closed. The reason is because the electronic Idle system is designed to operate with the plates fully closed. Then make sure the adjustment screw for the Idle switch is set to trip the switch. but not too much otherwise it will act like the idle stop screw and attempt open the throttle plates from the spring back pressure of the idle switch. If the above steps don't seem to help then check the idle speed motor to see if it is moving. ( I've seen a motor that was frozen from a rusted motor bearing) Also do a continuity check at the idle switch wire connections. Has your car ever idled properly since you've had it?
