Kevin,
I agree with Dave T. that it might be some intermittent short. It may be
tough to find but in the mean time I suggest moving the governor circuit to a
small plastic box inside the engine compartment. (Got mine at Radio Shack.)
You don't want to be getting under the car and removing that many times.
I moved mine to the drivers side of the engine compartment and I'm very
happy with the results. I used two conductor wire with a shield, also from RS,
to extend the wires from the "alternator" signal source that obviously needs
to stay inside the tranny. I also ended up replacing the brittle ribbon
cable that connects the two circuit boards with some thin stranded wires. That
way the two boards are easily mounted away from each other in the new box.
Usually that ribbon cable breaks when you go in and "play " with the boards.
When you move the circuit you may be able to get a better look to see if the
wiring harness is damaged as well.
