Well, I didn't get as fr as replacing the slave cylinder, didn't have to. You would have won the bet David. It seems as though a small seal, the one at the very back of the master sylinder had become stuck open. That's why the system wouldn't pressurize enough to allow the clutch to disengage. I removed the master cylinder, took it apart and gave it a good cleaning, (I rebuilt it last year so the seals were still in premium condition) and replaced the cylinder. I then proceeded to run a couple of boottles of fluid thru the system and pressure seems to be holding steady.
As for the bent 2-3 shifter pin and bent 5th gear fork, ugh! I don't even want to think about that. That's a realm I'm not sure if I'm ready to dive into.
Anyway, thanks to John Hervey and David T. for there expertise on the clutch matter.

I am still betting on the clutch master cylinder being the problem. Of
course we will all know if I am correct if, after replacing the slave
cylinder, the problem is still there. Let us know. Sounds like you
have a bent 2-3 shifter pin and a bent 5th gear fork too.
