To put the final finish on some of the Stainless Steel products I build I
use 80 grit flapper wheel. ( industrial grade.) You also have to use it at a
low speed like 2500 RPM or less or you will wind up polishing instead of
regraining.

Normally to start and get the feel of how regraining works I would get this
or equal pad and progress from there. This is an industrial grade pad I sell
that works real good by hand in taking out belt buckle scars and other small
blemishes.

I've often thought about that.  There are in my mind two things 
preventing me.

1) The belt sander will generate an awful amount of heat and possibly 
create warping, blue spots, or oil-cans.

2) If one were to do it, the belt sander bed is to hard to conform to 
irregular surfaces.  You would have to modify the belt sander.  Possibly 
with a bed made from silicone sponge rubber coated with a teflon sheet.

With successfully completing # 2 above you might have a chance.
