RE: [DML] Re: Trunk Bolts

Dave,

I have to respectfully disagree. We?ve been installing and selling black
finished stainless trunk and exterior lamp screw kits for many years and
they exhibit much less of a tendency to bind than plated steel fasteners. We
do lubricate the threads of screws being installed in aluminum rivnuts but
have never had a single complaint from our mail order customers about
binding regardless of lubrication issues. We also sell hardened stainless
exhaust manifold studs and recommend a product called

?Tef Gel? to alleviate any galling or corrosion in this more highly
stressed area. My hunch is that anti-seize compound would work as well. I
just wanted you to know our experience with stainless in these areas has
been very positive.

Thank you,
Rob Grady,

That's actually better than stainless. You don't really want to use
stainless screws there - into aluminum rivnuts - you may as well
weld them in place. It's good to use anti-sieze on them in any case.
