Thanks to everyone that shared advice. I can confirm that you can
easily go over 20 miles without an alternator and I comfortably
could have gone substantially farther. I selected a route that
maintained good speed in order to avoid the cooling fans coming on,
and drove with accessories and AC off (since the AC also causes the
cooling fans to engage).
My car is safely on its lift this evening awaiting a little service
this weekendand I'll swap in my other DeLorean into service for the
next couple days.
