[DML] More Questions on the shifter knob

Greetings DML

Now i am designing my own custom Shifter Knob, I know the thread size 
is 8 mm by 1.25. I was at the hardware store looking for a tap to fit 
that, but all i could find was 3/8, 1/4 in etc... What size should i 
use? I thought of looking at bolts, for they had 8 mm by 1.25, but 
there was more to it, like 8mm x 1.25 x 30mm, not just 8 mm x 1.25, 
what do you all suggest. In order for me to complete this, i need some 
help. I hope i can get some answers to these questions.
