I know its not what your asking, but the W pipe is much easier to remove
and re-install than you may think. Get new o-rings and paper gaskets
from your favorite vendor and go ahead. Draining off a bit of coolant
before you open the thermostat housing and then bleeding the system then
is more work that removing the W pipe.

Subject: [DML] Thermostat Replacement
I've been told by many that I don't need to remove the W intake pipe
to replace the thermostat. I was able to get the front bolt off of
the housing, but how does one go about removing the other one under
the W pipe?
I have the throttle partly removed to get to the back bolt, but my
little 7/8 wrench just doesn't have the length to reach in there to
have any torque.
Not enough room in the compartment for a breaker bar either. The
water bottle is in the way.
Thanx in advance.
