Check the two small bearings on the A/C belt. Just lift the belt off
and spin them. Or take the A/C belt off and run the engine. If there
is any noise or roughness replace them. If you have not replaced them
in the last 3 years, they are probably bad. The muffler heat makes
them fail rather often. Cheap fix.
I've seen them mis-diagnosed as water pump and alternator noise.
