I could be wrong on my posting since I'm not really aware of the chronological order of this cars but this was the model year the prevoius owner has on the pink slip when I purchased it in 1992 ...

My vin is 5180 (Oct 81.) The last81 model year VIN was 7199. Also 82 models came with 
no line hood and the DELOREAN emblem.

Althought ,I have heard of a rare occasion where a car was pulled from the line for what 
ever reason and delayed the production delivery and being givin' a current model year 
title.
