The collar fits over the pressed metal and does not impeed on the fitting of the ball joint at all....ie it still allows the clip to be installed on top and helps hold the ball joint FIRMLY in place. From memory I would say its 5mm thick. IMHO this is one of the most important saftey upgrades. I also boxed in the lower control arms to add more strength as DMCH do with all their referb cars.
