My shifter boot was also in poor condition when I purchased my car. 
You can buy new ones from DMC for $90 bucks or you can find a boot 
that looks similar at the junk yard for $4. I found on a mid 80s 
Honda something that looks pretty good, almost original. I simply 
transplanted the Honda boot over the Delorean frame, works like a 
charm!
