Paul, Paper gaskets are made to swell after moisture or oil get in contact
with them. That's part of the sealing process of a gasket. But with that
said I normally use a small amount of HT silicone on them to fill in the
small imperfections in the metal facings.

Do I need any type of gasket sealer/cement for paper gaskets, like the
valve cover or waterpump gaskets, or just leave paper alone?
