Deloreans can experience a form of vapor lock. If there is a kink or
perforation in the suction hose that feeds the fuel pump you can get
air mixed with fuel or starve the pump for fuel and it would seem to
be vapor lock. The best defense against this is an annual inspection
of the suction hose for softening, kinks, or perforations. A spring
inside is also good insurance. The inside of the fuel tank is one of
those dreaded "hidden" areas. Since it IS a "hidden" area more often
than not it is NOT paid attention to so many of the fuel system
problems START in the fuel tank. Other hidden areas include:
Fuse and relay block
Bulkhead connectors by the ignition coil
Trailing arm bolts, shims, and bushings
ALL ground connections
The area under the intake manifold
