I probably ought to check in on this one. Two years after the picture was posted on dmcnew.com, I had the privilege of doing the final disassembly of this very car. (Bernie M is now driving around on most of interior and fuel system parts from it!). The trailing arm bolts on that car were not only intact, but were relatively straight. I agree that the root cause of the accident was environmental/driver-induced - it happened in very heavy rain on an interstate highway. The impact was into the dirt in the median at approximatly the right front corner of the suspension, flipping the car. It then rejoined the highway, at speed, in an inverted position, actually grinding a hole in the stainless. The frame was twisted and the front section was snapped off on one side. The driver walked away from it once he figured out how to get out. You can see many more photos of this car in the two issues of Gullwing Magazine in the article series "Crash and Burn". I'll update the web page.
