You really do not need to paint it at all but if you prefer to there
is a great product called "Glyptol". It is a heavy red insulating
paint that is used to insulate the windings in electric motors. You
can get it at any shop that rebuilds electric motors or Eastwood sells
it. It sticks to castings well and is easy to clean. It is used by
engine rebuilders mainly inside the engine to make it easier to clean,
seal any porous castings, and promote faster drain-back. Try to clean
the surface as well as you can before you paint. If you replace the
seals and keep the coolant system tight you won't have any problem in
there.
