My clock has also failed, but by running at about 10x speed (flux capacitor?!??). An inspection revealed no obvious damage, and re-soldiering the components yielded nothing. I did note that the upper-right corner you spoke of gets very hot, about 130 degrees according to my IR pyrometer. I assume that's normal, but part of what "ages" that corner of the clock. I'm guessing my clock crystal has flipped, so for now I'm just leaving it unplugged.
